About Me

image
My name is John E. Kissinger

My interest in the arts goes back to when I was a child. I come from a family of very talented people. Unlike the rest of my family, I was persistent about being an artist. I always said I wanted to be an artist, but was always told I needed to have a job, security, a pension plan to retire on, and a big home with lots of bills to go along with everything that made one a true happy person. My mother always said, "Johnny, get your hair cut, shave, get a good job like your siblings and make something of your life". My motto was, "Last time I cut my hair, and shaved, I got a job!" I always saw a job as a means to help me become what I always knew was there. THE ARTIST My interests are multifacited. I have worked as a Silver Smith, Gold Smith, with Precious Stones, in Stained Glass and Glass Etching, Woodworking, Abstract Painting, Poetry, and many other medias. I basically just love to create with my hands and mind. I now incorporate all of these things in some of my creations so what I felt long ago has helped me become the Artist I am today. I thank my parents for the Artistic genes they passed on to me, but most of all I thank God! For He is the greatest Creator of All!!

I was drafted in 1969 and served in the Army. I flew as a door gunner with the 1st aviation brigade, 335th, air assault helicopters at Soc Trang in the Delta region of VietNam. I was shot down 5 times and was wounded once in the leg. War is Hell!!

I was diagnosed with late stage prostate cancer in 2002. Probably caused from Agent Orange from my service in VietNam. I had surgery in 2003 and my latest checkup was good! I am a survivor of Cancer.

My plans are to make flutes and start a group to help people with cancer.
I want to become strong enough mentally to be able to help children with cancer who are terminally ill. Probably the hardest thing I will ever do in my life. Just getting the courage to deal with their "little souls" is overwhelming. I have recently gotten a book on making cardboard instruments which I plan on sharing with them and to help take their minds off of their illness for even a little while.

My motto; You Are Either Part of The Problem, Or Part of The Solution!
